Undertrial Prisoner Population is on the rise: Prison Statistics India 2020

National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) released its report on Prison Statistics 2020 on 27th December 2021. It was seen from the report that the majority of the inmates in Indian Prisons are those who are under trial.

Undertrial prisoners are unconvicted prisoners who have been detained during the process of investigation, inquiry or before being put to trial for an offence that they have been accused of.

The report shows that in the year 2020, around 76.1% of the total prison population in India are undertrial prisoners. Watch the above video to learn more!
